Journey to a Surfer Girl
I find it ironic that my last update was on April 27, and this one is on May 27. Anyways, I'm getting ready to upload the Alana Blanchard Video Hair Tutorial to YouTube. I'll post it on the site once I do.
Currently, I am in Ormond Beach, Florida, doing a little surfing. I came up with a great idea! I think I am going to embark on somewhat of a surfing journey! You guys will be able to watch me improve. This will also be beneficial to some of you who are major Alana Blanchard fans and want to surf like her! You will be able to take advice from a first-hand beginner on what it's like learning how to surf. No, I am not going to have any surfing lessons. Although they would help, I am trying to have fun learning myself. My goal is to move up to a 5'6" shortboard by the end of my journey.
Problem is, I live in Missouri! My family usually goes to Florida every year. Therefore, it will probably take me a long while before I am able to stand up on a shortboard. So, to fix this issue, I am going to try to practice as much as I can while I am here, and possibly extend our trip to a couple weeks, rather than one. Also, I may attempt renting a shortboard to get a feel for it and possibly begin on one. I have gotten the hang of a longboard, and am able to get past the surf, paddle correctly, and slightly angle on the wave. I've mastered my pop-up (on a longboard that is). Obviously there is room to improve, but throughout the day, I do 25 pop-ups (on land) in the morning, 25 around noon, and 25 before I go to bed. I also practice popping up in my pool. It's a concrete pool, so the surfboard won't damage anything. Sometimes my older brother will push the surfboard a little and have me pop-up, or create small waves as more of a challenge.
All in all, I still have about 5 more days left in our trip. The waves are suppose to be great on Wednesday and Thursday this week! I'm thinking about heading down to Ponce Inlet where the waves are the best of the best. Alana Blanchard has even surfed there! The only drawback is that it's in New Smyrna, the shark attack capital in the world. The most recent attack was last Saturday...
