My dad is the best and surprised me with the NSP 7'2" funboard I mentioned last night! (Last week was my birthday.) Here's exactly what mine looks like. Unfortunately, I am typing this at 11 p.m., so I can't just walk outside and snap a pic, as everyone else is sleeping. Oh, well. This should do...
He also picked up some Sex Wax (don't worry, it's only a brand of surfboard wax!) and Sticky Bumps Wax Remover at the Salty Dog Surf Shop here in Daytona Beach, Florida.
This board also has a traction pad on the tail of it, as you can tell. A traction pad has many benefits, and almost no drawbacks. Advantages to having one include that beginners can figure out their foot placement when they pop up, and if you duckdive under a wave, you have some leverage for the foot that you're pushing down on the tail of the surfboard. These can easily be installed to your surfboard. Mine happened to already be on it.
As far as surfing, I tried it out today and loved it! It seemed somewhat difficult at first, considering I shortened my original board by one foot. However, I did catch on and found this board to move a lot faster, and turn better. Once I figured out my pop-up, I actually felt that it was much easier than my NSP longboard I rented. The only drawback to it is that it's less buoyant and more unstable when paddling. Just make sure that, if you buy one, distribute your weight evenly on the board and position your body on the center line. That way, you won't have an issue when you're paddling.
All in all, this board was a great purchase! The waves kind of blew today, which isn't too good because tomorrow is our last day in Ormond Beach, then I'm headed back to Missouri. However, we're going to wake up around 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, and head to Ponce Inlet. The waves are predicted to be around 1-2 ft., but I'm not sure whether or not I am going to even set foot in the water, since that's where the most shark attacks occur... in the world. We'll see!
I'll update you tomorrow night, if I have time. We're leaving around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning to head back home, so we have to pack tomorrow night. I'll find time! Even if it's the day after I get home!
